I have to give you background on why I was allowed to be a part of this great moment in history, so here goes:
On May 2, 2000 on my way to pick up my 2 nieces (at that time there was only Sarah and Stephanie!) from daycare I hydroplaned into an oncoming minivan.
It had been raining and I had just gotten a new tire put on the front of my car (I didn’t know you were supposed to buy 2 tires, no-one ever told me)! So there I am driving in the rain to the daycare center. Of course as most of you know, I hate driving in the rain so I’m sure I wasn’t speeding. Anyway, as I said, I hydroplaned into on-coming traffic (of course I don’t remember any of this).
Well the next thing I know, I’m waking up in a hospital (at least I think it’s a hospital). I open my eyes and the first thing I see is a video camera mounted to the wall in front of me. Then, there is a doctor (I’m assuming at that point in time) asking me all sorts of questions. You know the standard q’s to make sure you’re not messed up in the head. But the last question he asks is, “Who’s the president of Korea?”
Well, that got me honestly worried! I remember thinking, “Aren’t I American?” I swore to myself that I was from the good ol’ USA. Well, I must have taken to long to answer because he says to me, “If you knew that answer, I would have been shocked!” What a way to wake up huh?!
Sorry I was too tired last night to finish! 2.10.06
After being released, that’s when the fun began!! I left witha HUGE hematoma (blood filled pocket) on my left thigh. It felt like it was full of Jell-O. I had my family doc come look at it as it just kept getting bigger and bigger. She sent me to the surgeon who said, “You’ll be admitted now and I’ll drain it in the morning.”
During the surgery it was discovered my thigh muscle had been severd by the seatbelt. Now, I know a lot of people don’t beleive in seatbelts, but I’m not one of them. If I hadn’t of had my belt on, I would have been hurt worse, or even not survived!
When we unpack the accident pics, I’ll upload them. The car was in two pieces. It split in half at the engine compartment live a <.
Well I spent 5 days total for that ordeal. I left with a leg brace from my ankle to my hip. During the next week I wen to the ER with breathing trouble. Found out I had pneumonia. Then, I forget how exactly, it was determined that I had a back fracture. No one knew how serious because they couldn't get a good look at it. So I spent another night in the hospital! Then I had to take an hour and a half car ride to Little Rock to the "back doctor."
I was told the fracture was between my shoulder blades. A good place to have one if you're gonna get one! But still I needed to be in a brace. So here I am in a full leg brace and a corsette type back brace. MAN, I couldn't move at all!!!
All the braces stayed on for 2 months. I had to learn how to walk again and rebuild my back muscles. All very tiresome tasks. I still have residual pain in my leg and back, but that's what Motrin was invented for, right!
Anyway, for all that I went through recovering, my mother went to the Olympic website and turned in my story. Nominating me for a chance to be a torch bearer. They must have liked the story, cuz I got to do it! As an added bonus, they let her also be a torch bearer. So I got to not only carry the torch, but also pass the flame to my mom.
THANKS MOM, IT WAS A TRUELY MEMORABLE TIME IN MY LIFE

well its good to know you came thru` this horrible incident ok?
You must be very proud of being an Olympic Torch Bearer-especially both of you being able to do it together, I think thats wonderful-well done you and your mom.Be proud!!
I didn’t get to finish the story last night! I was exhausted, the rest is on it’s way!!
THANKS I am very grateful for my mom nominating me.
It was extremely memorable…and I am so grateful that you were nominated, a moment in time, for sure. And, to have you pass the flame to me…well…you know how much that meant to me…an honor, a moment I will never forget.
The fact that you were able to participate, speaks volumes for your determination to recover. I am so grateful for that.
Your health and recovery were my daily worries, and I am so grateful you are here with us, to share this story.
wow-I just came back and read the rest of your story! You sound like you`ve really been thru` the mill with this!! You make it all sound so matter-of-fact too when it obviously is`nt! It is apparent you have a very strong persona, you have carried yourself thru this ordeal so well and fully deserved the nomination for the Torch-Bearing role from your Mom…all strength and good wishes to you!
That should read “I am so glad you were chosen”, and not “I am so glad you were nominated”.
Charlie, Thank you so much. It was quite an ordeal. But I made up my mind that I would get through it and not let it run my life. I live with the daily pain, but it’s worth it to be alive!
As a matter of fact to prove that I wasn’t going to let it stop me, I walked the 5k Race for the Cure October of 2000. In previous years, I walked it in just about an hour. I did it in the same time again! Now that’s what I am most proud of!
And, you should be proud of the 5k Race for the Cure!! I am proud of you for that, and for everything else you strived for.

Sorry me noob…
There was this guy see.
He wasn’t very bright and he reached his adult life without ever having learned “the facts”.
Somehow, it gets to be his wedding day.
While he is walking down the isle, his father tugs his sleeve and says,
“Son, when you get to the hotel room…Call me”
Hours later he gets to the hotel room with his beautiful blushing bride and he calls his father,
“Dad, we are the hotel, what do I do?”
“O.K. Son, listen up, take off your clothes and get in the bed, then she should take off her clothes and get in the bed, if not help her. Then either way, ah, call me”
A few moments later…
“Dad we took off our clothes and we are in the bed, what do I do?”
O.K. Son, listen up. Move real close to her and she should move real close to you, and then… Ah, call me.”
A few moments later…
“DAD! WE TOOK OFF OUR CLOTHES, GOT IN THE BED AND MOVED REAL CLOSE, WHAT DO I DO???”
“O.K. Son, Listen up, this is the most important part. Stick the long part of your body into the place where she goes to the bathroom.”
A few moments later…
“Dad, I’ve got my foot in the toilet, what do I do?”
Is that a new way? Are you trying to be with my uncomfortable dismissal Nice joke! How can you make a slow horse fast? Stop feeding him!!
J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. says it will modify the terms of $70 billion in troubled, mostly adjustable-rate mortgages it holds.
The New York bank inherited many of the loans as part of its September purchase of a failed competitor, Washington Mutual Inc. (NYSE:WM), and its move will cover as many as 400,000 borrowers. J.P. Morgan said Friday the borrowers will be moved into loans carrying lower interest rates, smaller principal amounts or other more-affordable terms, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The move came shortly after the bank received a $25 billion capital infusion from the U.S. Treasury’s program to strengthen financial institutions and get credit flowing.
“Our goal in doing this was to come up with something that we think will lead the industry in helping as much as possible on this issue,” said J.P. Morgan executive Charles Scharf.
John Taylor, chief executive of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, said the action was “a gutsy move on their part. They are bending over backward to try to reach out to these people.”
